I reckon guns are bad. No good can come from the existence of guns. I understand that we can’t make them disappear, but I reckon individuals should not be able to own guns.
It’s so easy to pick on America and their insane gun laws.
In 2009, 60% of all homicides in the United States were perpetrated using a firearm. How is this possible? Because everything that breathes in America owns a gun. If there were more strict gun laws, would most of these 12 thousand people a year murdered by guns in America still be alive? Of course they would!! At what expense? Civil liberties? Hardly. Ask the family and friends of a firearm victim if they are happy with the current guns laws.
I understand that there are still going to be bad people out there owning guns. Even in Australia we have an underworld and a black market where guns are available. But typically when these weapons are used, it is bikie on bikie related or something similar to that. In Australia we don’t have regular school shootings, or maniacs shooting up movie theatres. I wonder how many people have to be shot in America before they will wake up?
I feel safe that a Police officer can carry a gun. That seems obvious to me. What also seems obvious is that some accountant that lives in suburbia doesn’t need to own a gun, or have access to a gun. Is this obvious to you?

Lisa : Dad! The Second Amendment is just a remnant from revolutionary days. It has no meaning today!
Homer : You couldn’t be more wrong, Lisa. If I didn’t have this gun, the king of England could just walk in here anytime he wants and start shoving you around. [pushing Lisa] Do you want that? [pushing her harder] Huh? Do you?
Lisa : [quietly indignant] No …
Homer: All right, then.
