I reckon (to my surprise) channel 9 is getting most things right with the new Big Brother 2012. The show has exceeded my expectations. I think one of the reasons is it reminds me of when I was in my late teens and loved the show and used to watch it religiously in the hope of catching a glimpse of a shower scene. To be honest, nothing has changed all that much.

The housemates seem to be the usual mix of young people with varying degrees of confidence, good looks and personallity. Except for that Benjamin hiusemate, he is just a wanker. No one else is pissing me off yet.

Now that I have given Big Brother a big pat on the back, I am going to give the show a hard time for a moment.

The secrets…

Oh my god, what a terrible idea. Does anyone really care about any of the “secrets”?

• Which housemate is a juvenile offender? Who cares?
• Which housemate hasn’t dated a girl since they were 11? Who cares?

Are we seeing a pattern yet? I reckon if someone had a secret that they once slept with Paris Hilton, that would be cool. Maybe one of the girls was born with a tail, that would be a cool secret. Maybe one of the guys was a world record holder in something, would also be a cool secret.

The one that is really frustrating me is the huge emphasis they are putting on this multi-millionaire. Again, who cares? If they had a billionaire in the house, that would be impressive. But a millionaire… Pfft, you probably work for one. You drive past 30 of them every day. You see dozens of them on TV every day. You hear their music on the radio. Nothing impressive about having a millionaire in the house, yet they still harp on about it all episode long.

So I’m looking forward to this “secrets” challenge being over and moving on to some more entertaining stuff. All in all I must say that I was very critical of the show before it started. I wrote articles about how bad the Big Brother show would be, but for most part I have been pleasantly surprised.
